They’re EREVs — Extended-Range Electric Vehicles — where the internal combustion engine is a dedicated generator, not a drivetrain component. No throttle body. No intake manifold. No port injectors. Yes — the range extender engine (a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder in L-series; 1.5T + electric compressor in MEGA) uses high-pressure GDI injectors. But they’re buried inside a sealed, CAN-FD–governed, HV-isolated generator module. You don’t ‘replace’ them like a 2006 BMW N54. You don’t touch them unless you’re Li Auto-certified, have live VIN-decoded EPC access, and own TechTool v2.4.1 with active subscription. Period.

What you’re actually getting:
- Reboxed surplus — factory overruns, canceled orders, or returned units with no traceability, no QC logs, no firmware version stamps;
- Tier-2 subcontractor stock — e.g., Bosch-made CDC dampers built to Li Auto spec but not serialized, not calibrated, not flashable — they’ll bolt up, then fail CDC valve learning at 22°C ambient;
- Outright counterfeit — aluminum housings 40% underweight, fake LX- prefixes, QR codes linking to Shenzhen WordPress sites pretending to be Li Auto’s QC portal.
Real Li Auto parts have dual traceability:
- A stamped 12-digit alphanumeric serial on the damper body (e.g.,
LX-AS-R-L9-2405-882104); - A tamper-evident QR code on the mounting bracket — scannable only into Li Auto’s dealer portal, which validates firmware revision, calibration history, and thermal cycle count.

Before installing any non-factory high-voltage component (battery modules, DC-DC converters, contactors, service disconnects), you MUST verify compliance with your local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) — whether that’s California EVSE Code Division, Germany’s KBA, Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation, or your state’s electrical board.
- Li Auto’s HV system operates at up to 400V DC nominal, 520V peak — not “low voltage.”
- Non-OEM HV parts require third-party certification per IEC 61851-23, UL 2580, and local electrical safety codes.
- Structural modifications (subframe, crumple zones, battery tray reinforcements) must meet UN R94 / FMVSS 305 crash standards — not just “fits the holes.”
- In most EU and Canadian provinces, installing uncertified HV components voids type approval — meaning your shop cannot legally certify roadworthiness, and the vehicle fails annual inspection.
