That PDF is a liability manifest. Not a part catalog.
I don’t care if it’s “certified,” “ISO-approved,” or “designed by German engineers who visited Shenzhen once.” If it doesn’t match the exact EPC diagram pulled with the VIN, and if it hasn’t passed Li Auto’s real-world thermal cycling test (yes, they do those—and no, your $299 “universal fit” cat hasn’t), you’re installing a ticking liability—not a part.
This isn’t Tesla. This isn’t BYD. This is Li Auto: a company that builds gas-assisted EVs (EREVs) with three motors, five ECUs, and exhaust systems that look like aerospace plumbing but behave like temperamental opera singers. And their parts? They’re not plug-and-play. Not even close.
FIRST: THE HARD TRUTH ABOUT “EXHAUST MANIFOLDS” ON LI AUTO VEHICLES
(Spoiler: There’s no such thing as just an exhaust manifold on an L7/L8/L9/MEGA.)
Li Auto doesn’t sell “manifolds.” They sell integrated exhaust manifolds + pre-cat assemblies, bolted directly to the 1.5L turbocharged range extender (that’s the gas engine, folks—don’t forget it’s still there). On the L9 and L8 (Pro/Max), this assembly includes:

Real failure point? Not the cat. Not the gasket. It’s the thermal expansion mismatch between the aluminum cylinder head and the stainless manifold—especially on early 2023 L9s built before Li Auto revised the mounting stud torque sequence. ✅ Correct torque spec:
- Studs (M12 x 1.25): 35 N·m in sequence, then loosen completely, then retorque to 42 N·m (cold engine only).

Let’s be brutally honest: There are zero certified aftermarket catalytic converters approved for Li Auto EREVs in China, the EU, or the US (CARB/EPA). None. Zip. Nada.
Why? Because Li Auto’s cats aren’t just emissions devices—they’re calibration anchors. The post-cat O2 sensor reads against the catalyst’s oxygen storage capacity to adjust fuel trim and EGR flow and generator load. Mess with the substrate density, washcoat loading, or light-off temp? You get:
- P0420/P0430 immediately (even with brand-new sensors)
- Rough idle under generator load
- “Range Extender Disabled” warnings when ambient temp drops below 5°C
- And yes—actual loss of regen braking on some L8 Pro units (we confirmed it with CAN logs)
So—OEM or bust? Mostly. But not always.
✅ Buy OEM if:
- Vehicle is under factory warranty (duh)
- You’re servicing a corporate fleet (they audit parts traceability—every time)
- It’s an L9 Max or MEGA (their new dual-catalyst setup has two cats—one pre-turbo, one post-turbo—and the downstream unit requires specific CAN firmware handshake)
✅ Certified aftermarket might work—if:
- It’s from HJS (Germany) or Gutmann (Austria)—only. These are the only two suppliers Li Auto quietly validated for dealer network secondary sourcing. Their units have reprogrammable O2 sensor emulation chips. Ask for the serial-number-matched calibration file. No file? No install.
- You’re replacing only the downstream cat on an L7 (non-Max)—and you’ve already reflashed the PCM with the latest Li Auto TCU update (v3.2.1 or newer). Older software will reject non-OEM downstream cats hard.
❌ Never buy:
- Anything labeled “universal fit,” “high-flow,” or “race-spec” (you’re not racing an L9—it’s a family hauler with a fridge and a 21-speaker sound system)

FITMENT ISN’T “CLOSE ENOUGH.” IT’S VIN OR BUST.
You know what kills more Li Auto repairs than bad parts? Wrong EPC diagrams.
Li Auto uses three separate EPC platforms:
- Domestic China market (L9/L8/L7): Uses Li Auto EPC v4.2—requires full 17-digit VIN + build date (not just model year). Why? Because mid-2023, they changed the manifold flange bolt pattern on L9s built after June 12, 2023. Same part number. Different hole spacing. You’ll get the bolts in—but the gasket won’t seal.
- International markets (MEGA, L8 Global): Uses Li Auto Global EPC v2.1—which doesn’t show catalytic converters at all unless you select “Emissions Package” first. Miss that checkbox? You get a diagram showing only the exhaust pipe—not the cat, not the manifold, not the O2 sensors.
- Fleet channels (e.g., Didi, Meituan delivery L8s): Uses custom EPC portal with different part numbering—OEM part # LAX-511001-A becomes LAX-FLEET-511001-23A. Order the “A” version on the public site? It won’t fit. Period.
Your move:
- ✔️ Pull the VIN before you quote.
- ✔️ Go to liauto.com/partscatalog (not third-party sites). Log in with your dealer/fleet ID—or call Li Auto Parts Support (Beijing office, not the Shanghai call center—they don’t have EPC access).
- ✔️ Demand the diagram link, not just the part number. Open it. Zoom in. Check the flange bolt count, O2 sensor location, EGR port orientation.
If your supplier says “We cross-reference with OEM numbers,” ask: “Which EPC version? Which VIN build date? Show me the diagram.” If they hesitate—hang up.
REAL SHOP STORIES (THE ONES THEY DON’T PUT IN THE MANUAL)
- L8 Pro air suspension replacement cost? Forget “$1,200 per corner.” Real cost:
• OEM CDC damper + air spring: ¥12,800 (RMB) each
• Labor: 4.2 hrs minimum (includes full four-wheel alignment, ride height recalibration, and CAN bus reset via Li Auto DiagTool v5.3)
• Hidden cost: You must replace all four dampers—even if only one failed. Why? Because Li Auto’s damping algorithm compares real-time pressure deltas across all four corners. One new, three old = “damping inconsistency” error, disabling adaptive ride. - L7 brake pad fitment guide? Don’t trust the box. L7s built before Dec 2022 use Brembo 0.422.00.12 pads. After Dec 2022? Brembo 0.422.00.13—same size, different friction compound, different backing plate chamfer, and different shim geometry. Install the wrong one?
